Job Summary: The Communications Manager plays a central role in strengthening Project Coyote’s relationship with the public, volunteers, donors, media, and broader conservation community. This dynamic, fast-paced position blends digital communications and media relations to ensure consistent, mission-driven outreach. This position will oversee the Social Media & Marketing Coordinator position and interns as applicable.

This role requires outstanding writing and editing skills, technical skills in WordPress and e-communications, excellent project management skills, strong organizational ability, and a passion for wildlife conservation. The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible, highly collaborative, and adept at managing numerous communication projects and deadlines. As a key member of a growing organization, the Communications Manager will help elevate Project Coyote’s voice nationally and support strategic expansion.

Responsibilities:

Digital Communications (30%)

  • In collaboration with staff, draft, edit, and disseminate error-free e-blasts and action alerts through EveryAction CRM system, maintaining best practices for email distribution, list management, and maintaining organizational SOP’s.
  • Coordinate monthly volunteer email updates.
  • Oversee development, writing, and copyediting for the quarterly Coyote Chronicles newsletter, collaborating with staff to curate compelling conservation stories and program updates.
  • Maintain e-blast template library and ensure consistent brand use.
  • Maintain event and digital download sign-up forms, ensuring consistency and brand alignment.

Media & Public Communications: (30% )

  • Enhance Project Coyote’s presence in the media by writing, ghostwriting, or copyediting LTEs and Op-Eds for Project Coyote’s national and regional staff.
  • Cultivate relationships with reporters and media outlets.
  • Craft and disseminate media statements and press releases, and grow and maintain media contact and distribution lists.
  • Seek opportunities for editorials from major media outlets, and implement both proactive and reactive strategies for addressing time-sensitive events and priorities in the field of wild carnivore advocacy.
  • Manage email and Google Voice inquiries to Project Coyote from external outlets and the general public and answer (or distribute to appropriate staff) for timely expert response.
  • Provide content and submissions for outside publications as requested.

Website Management: (15%)

  • Update the WordPress website to ensure current information, error-free text, and conduct content updates as needed.
  • Maintain web media library by organizing and standardizing file systems.

Webinar & Event Coordination: (15%)

  • Coordinate Project Coyote’s quarterly webinar series Nourishing Earth, Nourishing Ourselves, including speaker outreach, promotions, technical setup, and webinar facilitation.
  • Support Project Coyote staff in the promotion and technical setup of organizational webinars.
  • Facilitate bi-monthly Team Social virtual meetings.

Other Duties: (10%)

  • Assist Operations & Communication Director in maintaining yearly communications calendar and tasks in Asana project management software.
  • Manage creative-related vendors, printers, and contractor information and files.
  • Maintain organization of digital assets in Canva and Google Drive.
  • Provide editorial support for publications and grants.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a communication management role preferred.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record of successful project management and ability to work with multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A degree in communications, public relations, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent direct experience will also be considered.
  • Adept knowledge of Google Suite, Asana, Slack, WordPress, and Canva. Prior experience with email marketing software. EveryAction experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, wildlife conservation, environmental/animal protection, or related fields.
  • Passion and dedication to the mission and goals of Project Coyote.
