Job Purpose: 

To support the development, management, and implementation of the Alumni & Supporter Engagement programme, in accordance with the mission and values of the department, and the strategic aims of the University, developing mutually beneficial relationships with our global alumni and supporter community.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities: 

Alumni and supporter communications – 

To create, write, produce, manage, and deliver strategic alumni and supporter communication plans and content, in support of ODAR activity, to include major gift fundraising support and alumni engagement This role has a particular focus on digital, data and design-led activity.

To include, but not limited to:

  • Taking the lead on delivering new microsites, working with a web development agency and our Communications Officer within the team. We’ve started work on a website for our new Medical Innovation Fund and the temporary Communications Manager will take the lead on managing this project. Once complete, we will make a start on updating other existing fund pages with another new microsite.
  • Lead on making data requests to our Development Services team who manages the CRM, to ensure we’re reaching the right people with our communications.
  • Support our Communications officer with launching new social media channels, aimed at giving.
  • Manage a digital advertising campaign to encourage ‘lost alumni’ to update their details – LinkedIn is likely to be the channel used. We will work with an advertising agency to deliver this.
  • Support the team with a review of the communications journey for a student through graduation and becoming a recent graduate.
  • Support the team with proofreading communications pieces.

Essential Skills: 

  • Skill Level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification OR relevant work experience. Experience of delivering and managing creative multichannel and multi-audience marketing and communication plans – including digital and print. Experience of managing and developing digital marketing tools such as videos and websites Experience of using audience and data insight to develop and deliver bespoke communications/projects/campaigns that meet specific objectives, and to evaluate success. Experience of working in a diverse, busy environment.
  • Highly developed organisational and administrative skills. Proven project management experience, and working to tight deadlines. Ability to operate independently. Ability to plan and prioritise both own and teams standard and non-standard work activities
  • Ability to identify and solve problems by applying judgement and initiative to tackle some situations in new ways and by developing improved work methods.
  • Effective stakeholder management. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff across the University. Experience of using project management skills to plan and deliver projects over a period of months.
  • Understanding of how to develop compelling communications messages and how to get them to the audience, via the right channel. Proven experience of writing and editing high profile, high quality communication pieces. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills – with high attention to detail. Confident and concise at presenting information and ability to proofread. Creating strong stories to support a campaign – engaging audiences and eliciting a call to action.   Ability to use tact and diplomacy when communicating sensitive information to a range of audiences. Able to elicit information to identify specific customer needs.
  • High level of integrity when handling sensitive information. Accuracy and attention to detail. Understanding of Data Protection legislation. IT literate, including competent use of Microsoft Office, Access, PowerPoint, Word and Excel and website technologies. Experience of demonstrating the behaviours and approach to work expected by the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary. Willingness to travel in the UK

Desirable Skills:        

  • Experience of managing social media channels. Experience of managing fundraising communications/campaigns either in Charity, Education or Health sectors. Experience of working with CRM (customer relationship management).
  • Financial administration and budget management experience, including taking responsibility for small-scale budgets, ensuring operational and cost efficiency.
  • Experience of fundraising copywriting.
  • Experience of the use of University systems including: Alumni database (Blackbaud CRM). Student record system (Banner/Discoverer). Finance system (Business World) Mailing software (Mailchimp).
