World Animal Protection is looking for a proactive and agile Communications Manager to lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the internal and external communications strategy for our critical work across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
By positioning World Animal Protection as a global leader in animal protection the successful candidate will increase brand awareness and establish animal protection as a mainstream issue.

World Animal Protection is the global voice for animal welfare, with more than 70 years’ experience campaigning for a world where animals live free from cruelty and suffering.

We have offices in 14 countries and work across 47 countries. We collaborate with local communities, the private sector, civil society and governments to change animals’ lives for the better.

Our goal is to change the way the world works to end animal cruelty and suffering for both wild and farmed animals. Through our global food system strategy, we will end factory farming and create a humane and sustainable food system, that puts animals first. Our work to protect animals will play a vital role in solving the climate emergency, the public health crisis, and the devastation of natural habitats.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, this newly created role will lead the development and implementation of the communications strategy across across traditional and social media, events, volunteering and thought leadership, in consultation with the Campaigns, Digital Marketing, and the Fundraising teams.

  • This role is accountable for developing, implementing, and evaluating the integrated internal and external communication strategy across both countries.
  • Managing and developing the communications team while working with digital marketing colleagues to ensure an integrated, strong, and consistent brand and engagement experience for fundraising and campaign activities.
  • Closely collaborating with the Digital Marketing Manager to develop reports and data inputs for strategy integration and the quarterly performance review process, ensuring we are utilising insights to improve our results.
  • The role is part of the ANZ senior management team and collaborates with colleagues on awareness and engagement objectives, deliverables, performance, and learnings of projects.

Who are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Significant (5-7 years) communications experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team
  • Experience in the strategic development and execution of communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current media landscape (including the latest trends in social media), engagement and measurement
  • Demonstrated ability to lead on end-to-end projects, with extensive knowledge of communications including planning, management, and follow-up communications to relevant stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Proven experience in analysing, problem solving and testing with analytical and ability to think laterally and strategically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Team management and leadership skills to provide coaching and support to direct reports as well as collaboration with international colleagues, consultants, and vendors.
  • Demonstrated budget management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to negotiate and influence outcomes with diverse stakeholders with a strong track record as both a strategic leader and collaborator who drives relationships.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the Not-For-Profit/Charity industry
  • Computer literate using Microsoft packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Previous use of Streem, Medianet and Marketing Workflow Tools.
  • Events management experience a benefit
  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline (e.g. Communications)
