About the role:
The SANE Communications and Media Lead is responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategies that raise the profile of the SANE brand, build engagement with SANE services and programs, and support SANE advocacy on behalf of the Australian complex mental health community.
Reporting into the Manager, Public Affairs and Advocacy, this position works with a range of internal stakeholders to create compelling content, ensure consistent messaging and support engagement with stakeholders including consumers and carers with lived experience, mental health service providers, government and funding bodies. The role will also support delivery of media engagement, thought leadership, internal communication activities and special events.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent writing skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and a genuine passion for improving the lives of those impacted by mental ill health.
Duties:
- Design and deliver impactful communications campaigns and events that raise awareness of complex mental health conditions and build engagement with SANE services.
- Produce compelling content such as blogs, case studies and videos for a range of purposes and manage SANE’s podcasts, webinar and newsletter content and production.
- Provision of editorial support for corporate communications including storyboards, reports, promotional collateral, speech notes, spokesperson briefings and presentations.
- Identify thought leadership opportunities and support media engagement including identification and training of spokespeople.
- Manage the SANE external meeting and conference calendar and support engagement with SANE service partners and the broader mental health sector through development and delivery of appropriate messaging and content as required.
- Management of SANE internal communication channels and strategy.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
- Qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience of working in a campaign, communications or media management role.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- A proven track record of developing communication strategies, campaigns and stories which increase brand awareness and positioning and engagement.
- Experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders, including journalists and ambassadors/spokespeople, in order to achieve media and brand positioning goals.
- Experience developing compelling stories and content for owned and earned channels
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience working in or understanding of the mental health sector or issues relating to mental health and stigma is desirable.
