Job Description:

Key Outputs/Responsibilities

15% Time

  • Engage in the development and implementation of a quarterly communications plan for meeting the strategic donor and public engagement objectives of WVI Sierra Leone.
  • Annual, Quarterly and Monthly Communications Plans drawn with clearly stated deliverables submitted to the Communications Manager. Timely submission of periodic reports.

20%

  • Produce videos, graphics, photography, feature stories, documentaries and issues-oriented reports highlighting the impact of World Visions work in the lives of children and their families.
  • Timely production and sharing of content on various WVISL and GC internal and external platforms.

15%

  • Contribute written stories, photos and information for the production of an electronic newsletter. Website and WVISL social media platforms that detail organizational changes, activities, staffing and social news of WVI Sierra Leone.
  • Timely collation and submission of links to requisite content (audio-visual, print and photos) for the production of the newsletter to the Communications Manager

15%

  • Engage with media and on social media. Develop and maintain key in-country media contacts.
  • Work in collaboration with the Supply Chain unit among others to acquire filming permits and equipment clearance for Support Office/GC filming crews and facilitate field trips as required.
  • Liaise with national and local press to support AP programme’s media coverage.
  • Media contact list prepared and updated periodically.
  • Timely collation and sharing of details of filming equipment and media personnel with the Supply Chain unit.
  • Facilitating media field trips

  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports to the Communications Manager.
  • Timely preparation and submission of monthly, semi-annual and annual reports to the Communications Manager.

10%

  • Contribute to advocacy-oriented communications products and campaigns including web-based and print materials, posters, briefing papers, reports, stories and photo essays, and organizing events that raise the profile of World Vision International Sierra Leone, for example, commissioning of projects, and launching of reports.
  • Furnish and update content in the units Shared Folder.

5%

  • Be deployed to disaster zones (when required) to produce quality stories and photos for WVISL and the WV Partnership.
  • Timely production and sharing of highlights of WVISLs emergency response.

  • Administrative duties and any other assignment given by the Communications Manager

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience or on-the-job training:

  • Minimum Qualification required: Degree in Journalism or Social Science disciplines or related field

  • Experience: 3 years of experience in development communications international communications, media, video production, photography and journalism and at least 1 in a development organisation.

  • General experience in the production of diverse and creative communications projects including publications, graphics design, multi-media, websites/pages, photo and video reports etc.

  • Being able to travel and work in the field is an essential function of the position.

  • Fluency in English (writing and verbal)

Technical Skills & Abilities:

  • English-language fluency (written and verbal), with excellent writing skills

  • Excellent video production, graphics design and photographic skills.

  • Additional skills in word processing and creative suits are advantageous.

  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills

  • Ability to work harmoniously within teams, often while under pressure

  • Ability to travel and work in the field is an essential and frequent function of the position. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational diversities.

  • Attend and participate/lead in daily devotions and weekly Chapel services.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Work environment: Office-based with travel to the field

  • Domestic Travel: 25%

  • On Call: 5 %
