Job description
Working within the broader Policy, Advocacy and Communications Business Unit, the Communications Officer will support the Executive Manager, Communications and Digital Services and is primarily responsible for liaising with internal and external stakeholders to provide communications advice and develop and implement strategic communications plans.
The role will also support the Communications and Digital Services team through other areas including internal communications, writing, social media, content creation, website and media when required.

Key responsibilities include:
- Consult with teams and units to develop, design, and deliver high impact communications plans and activities
- Liaise with stakeholders to strengthen the delivery and execution of communications activities
- Assist managing social media channels including maintaining the social media calendar, creating content (e.g. photos, graphics, video) drafting and publishing posts and posting schedule and responding to enquiries
- Manage and maintain the internal image and content library
- Assist the Media Advisor & Public Relations Advisor prepare regular media reports (using Stream), draft media releases and key messages.
- Support compiling stories for VACCHO communication channels such as the Intranet, Member News etc and maintaining mailing lists

Key Selection Criteria
- At least three years’ experience in a relevant role
- Demonstrated knowledge and working experience in communications and digital teams
- Experience developing and implementing effective and integrated communications plans
- Experience with internal and external communications plans and approaches
- Demonstrated ability in analysing and understanding communications needs of stakeholders
- Exceptional writing, editing and verbal skills and ability to translate complex information
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
- Demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and always remain impartial.
- Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as an effective team member, promoting cooperation and commitment to achieve goals.
- A flexible approach, with strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to effectively manage time and workload, prioritise tasks, and meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions, and deadlines.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Tertiary education and/or equivalent professional experience in communications
- Graphic design experience using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work that we do.

- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and commitment to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and health.
- Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal peoples, Communities, and organisations, in a culturally safe, and appropriate, manner.
- Demonstrated understanding of LGBTQIASB+ issues and experience with LGBTQIASB+ people via professional engagement, employment or lived experience.
