Communications Specialist
Dean – Social Work
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
The Communications Specialist leads all communications efforts, serving as a staff writer tasked with crafting messages for internal and external audiences and managing communications projects for the School of Social Work. This position develops, writes, and implements content that includes long-form feature writing, web copy, advertising copy, and a wide variety of other project work across multiple channels for the School. The Communications Specialist creates and edits storytelling content for PR, marketing, and social media initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Outstanding written communication and editorial skills using AP Style.
• Must be organized, self-sufficient, and able to work with autonomy as well as a member of a team.
• Ability to produce in-house videos (filming, script writing, and editing).
• Proficiency in content management systems including Drupal.
• Proficiency in multimedia/creative tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, etc.) and/or Final Cut Pro.
• Proficiency and track record in social media platform posting and content management.
• Proficient computer skills with knowledge of applications applicable to the responsibilities of the position.
• Strong public speaking, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or other closely related field
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree
• 3 years of experience in communications in higher education
• 3 years of social media and communications experience
Compensation Information
