Job Description
Purpose:
The Communications Specialist III, under general supervision, is assigned to perform various communications duties for the Materials Science and Engineering. The position is primarily responsible for serving as a communications liaison and carrying out the strategic communication plan for the department.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares news feature stories highlighting the faculty, students and research in the Materials Science and Engineering Department.
- Promote departmental special events and programs.
- Manage the department’s social media presence.
- Coordinate the production of print material and electronic communications to support the goals of the department through collaboration with Engineering Communications.
- Utilize a project management tracking system for all project requests.
- Provide front-facing customer support on communications-related needs and collaborate with support teams in Engineering Communications to fulfill those requests.
- Provide data-driven strategic communication ideas for communications for the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we need:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four years of related experience.
What we want:
- Experience in communications, content creation, journalism, public relations, and/or marketing.
- Experience writing content for journalistic or publications news.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of writing and how to tailor writing style for various audiences and specific outlets.
- Understanding of AP style.
- Ability to edit for grammar, clarity, organization, style and consistency.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others.
- Demonstrated ability working under deadlines.
- Knowledge of social media analytics.
- Working knowledge of AP Style writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Work Location:
- Main Campus – College Station, TX.
- Some positions may have potential for a flexible work schedule or location.
