BSL is working in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to deliver the NDIS across metropolitan Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

The Opportunity

The Community Capacity Building (CCB) Lead drives the development, implementation and evaluation of the division’s Community Capacity Building projects, to create more inclusive and respectful communities for people with disabilities.

The CCB Lead works collaboratively with the Senior CCB Lead, internal and external stakeholders; including people with lived experience of disability and or/developmental delay, to plan and deliver co-design projects within local communities.

  • Plan, develop and deliver initiatives that promote diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness in local communities.
  • Work closely with project team members to implement targeted co-design activity with people with lived experience of disability, their carers or family.
  • Work closely with local communities to;
    • Identify barriers to access and inclusion,
    • Identify local assets
    • Identify key actions to achieve change  
    • Mobilise communities to plan and deliver sustainable initiatives.
  • Engage a range of stakeholders from disability, local communities, local governments, NDIA and internal BSL programs to ensure a coordinated approach to enable placed based and partnership focused community capacity building initiatives

Is this you?

We seek applicants who have: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Community Development, Social Sciences or other relevant fields (including Early Childhood Intervention).
  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience in the disability sector, or awareness of the impact of existing or acquired disability upon individuals, families/carers, and the community.
  • High level experience of working in partnerships with local governments and other stakeholders such as peak bodies.
  • Previous experience working in community development, engagement, and capacity building initiatives within a project management framework.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and collaboration across all levels both internally and externally
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Strong facilitation skills with demonstrated ability to use a combination of techniques to engage and connect with diverse groups.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to liaise and build collaborative positive working relationships with children, families, and service providers.
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Experience with highly accountable processes that are subject to external review 
  • Understanding of and empathy with the values and ideals of BSL
