Your Opportunity

Mission Australia Housing Northern Territory has community housing operations in Darwin, due to a recent expansion and successful tender bid we are recruiting for a new Community Cultural Officer to work within an integrated service delivery approach to deliver on our aim to be the community-housing provider of choice.

We currently have a Permanent Full-time opportunity for a Community Cultural Officer. This role will be responsible for building formal and informal relationships and partnerships with community members and stakeholders across the Northern Territory.

To perform this role it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section sub-s 56(2) of Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD), and other communities, stakeholders, and mainstream services to build and deliver culturally supported community engagement plan.
  • Work closely with the tenancy, asset and support teams, to provide an integrated service delivery approach
  • Implement a range of Community Development programs across the Housing portfolio
  • Provide culturally sensitive care navigation and informed support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CaLD, and other communities seeking support through Mission Australia Housing
  • Lead community and tenant engagement activities through clear community development planning objectives
  • Develop a strategic plan for managing stakeholder partnerships in line with Mission Australia’s Partnership and Strengthening Communities Framework

Requirements for Success

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) and other communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to act with initiative and create solutions to presenting programs that meet a range of stakeholder’s needs.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and have a working knowledge of Northern Territory communities and ability to liaise with community support services.
  • Experience working with and for communities in a self-reflective and creative way that facilitates community self-determination
  • Current Drivers’ Licence

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
