About the Role

The Community Development Team Leader is a key role that reports directly to the Manager of Community Access. This position leads a dedicated team of Community Development Officers (CDOs), who are tasked with executing the Community Capacity Building plan.

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the effective implementation of projects and initiatives that enhance the reputation of the SSI LAC Program, positioning it as a valued NDIS Partner within the community. Ensuring that the program’s community capacity building activities result in meaningful, outcomes-driven collaborations, is a crucial part of this leadership position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Building partnerships and consulting with hard-to-reach communities on LAC community development initiatives.
  • Support daily operations of the CDOs team in the implementation of the Community Capacity Building plan
  • Allocation and monitoring of CDOs to achieve targets across the team and to manage staff wellbeing.
  • Work in partnership with members of the leadership team to identify opportunities to better support people with disability, their families, and carers.
  • Work with team members to develop a strong understanding of the key issues for people with disabilities and use co-design approaches in informing local planning and project execution.
  • Demonstrate project management skills to meet project objectives and timelines.
  • Contribute to report writing and capture critical data aligning to the objectives of the CCB.
  • Devise and implement strategic community engagement approaches aligning to community and program needs.

About You

We’re looking for a strong people leader who is committed to person-centred practices, with the ability to perform in high-pressure situations. Experience in managing a diverse team and fostering a sense of accountability is crucial to this position.

Essential criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in human services or community development and/or Demonstrated experience working in the human services sector e.g. disability, child services, allied health, social work, community development, education and/or relevant qualifications or training on social inclusion, community development and engagement or person-centred thinking and planning
  • Demonstrated experience leading a high performing team in a challenging service environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a person-centred approach to service provision, social inclusion and community development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage a variety of tasks and display personal drive and integrity.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with participants and stakeholders.
  • Lived experience or awareness of the impact of disability upon individuals, families, carers and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure cultural consideration of the needs of people and families from CALD communities in service access and delivery.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and in a range of locations across a local area when required
