St John Ambulance (Vic) has been saving lives and delivering care and compassion throughout Victoria for 140 years. Our volunteers and our staff are the lifeblood of everything we do. We are currently recruiting for passionate Community Education Officers to provide our First Aid in Schools Program in a range of locations throughout Victoria.

The Opportunity

At St John Ambulance (Vic) we are super proud of our First Aid in Schools program, which is often a child’s first experience of First Aid education. You will deliver engaging and age appropriate First Aid information and training to children, youth and adults in schools and community settings. Become part of the incredible success stories where children save lives as a result of this incredible initiative.

Not only will you deliver engaging and age appropriate first aid information in schools, you will facilitate first aid demonstrations in community settings to teens and adults as you actively contribute to community programs including CPR Lab, Defib in Your Street and Party Ready. This is a varied, active and flexible role that will see you travel and experience some fantastic schools and exhilarating events, which could be anything from the Grand Prix to the Good Friday Appeal and even O Week events.

People who have worked with children in the past and are comfortable engaging with children, in particular primary aged children would be best suited for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and age appropriate first aid information and training programs
  • Facilitating first aid demonstrations in community settings
  • Actively contribute to community programs including CPR Lab, Defib in Your Street and Party Ready programs
  • Be a great St John ambassador as you liaise with schools and community groups
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to program content and delivery
  • Travel to Melbourne Metro and Regional schools and events is a requirement of the role

Your experience

  • You will be a have a positive & engaging communication style
  • Have the ability to engage with children, youth and adults
  • Have previous experience working with children in an education, support or community program
  • Be willing to work flexibly and at different locations
  • Be tech savvy or interested in learning more
  • Have a current driver’s license
  • A willingness to learn First Aid

The requirements of the role mean that some early starts are required, this means being at schools ready to commence at the start of their day.

As a child safe organisation all of our employees will require a Working With Children Check and Police Check.
