International Funders for Indigenous Peoples (IFIP) is a Sacramento based non-profit dedicated to shifting power, mobilizing resources, and building partnerships to amplify Indigenous leadership and support the self-determination and rights of Indigenous Peoples worldwide. As the only philanthropy network dedicated to Indigenous Peoples worldwide, IFIP influences philanthropy to practice a new paradigm of giving based on Indigenous values “The Five R’s of Indigenous Philanthropy” —Respect, Relationships, Responsibility, Reciprocity, and Redistribution.  

IFIP is at an exciting moment of organizational strengthening and evolution to roll out new areas of work, meet strategic goals, and mobilize resources to Indigenous Peoples. IFIP’s global community staff, board, members, and partners are based around the world requiring flexible work hours.  

 

Position Overview 

The Community Engagement Manager is a new role that will deepen relationships and foster collaboration among members. This position supports the growth of IFIP’s global community by supporting members in making meaningful connections with one another, sharing learnings across members, managing member retention, conducting outreach to support program events, and recruiting new members into the IFIP community.  This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the IFIP team to implement the organizations strategic goals. 

The ideal candidate is mission driven, community oriented, detailed-oriented, and highly-motivated to work in service of amplifying Indigenous Philanthropy. The Manager is an avid relationship builder that can cultivate and nurture partnerships, effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, foster collaboration and engagement, and is a team player. The ideal candidate also brings direct and first-hand knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ values, worldviews, and rights. IFIP members include funder organizations and international indigenous organizations, and the manager will need the skills and abilities to communicate effectively with both groups. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Community Building and Cultivation 

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director manage the development and evaluation of IFIP’s member outreach and engagement strategy to foster collaboration.
  • Support the Executive Director to create a resource mobilization engagement strategy and organize, prepare, and attend donor meetings and convenings in support of strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee onboarding of new members, including creation of member materials and new member orientation, including designing and facilitating members community check-ins and dialogues.
  • Engage with members to keep appraised of their interests, needs, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Support prospective and incoming members with membership applications and inquiries and to connect them with our program offerings.
  • Manage the development and analysis of membership surveys and other feedback mechanisms for IFIP’s programs, events and initiatives.

Community Engagement and Outreach 

  • Serve as a primary point person for on-going interactions between IFIP and its members. Respond to member requests for information, resources, and participation on listserv groups.
  • Manage the gathering of member input, program metrics, and members’ grantmaking data to identify gaps and trends, and to foster members’ accountability.
  • Manage organization’s effective use of member and donor CRM, coordinate staff training, cross-team knowledge sharing, and use of data to contribute to membership engagement and analysis.
  • Contribute to the success of IFIP’s global conferences by driving outreach, member engagement, and revenue generation via donations, sponsorships, media partnerships, and other efforts.
  • Engages in philanthropy by participating in the US and global philanthropic sectors to amplify Indigenous philanthropy and to highlight the work of IFIP, members, and Indigenous organizations.
  • Collaborate with the IFIP team on the development of philanthropy focused guides, case studies, tools and resources to inform, influence, and promote a community of practice guided by the 5Rs of Indigenous Philanthropy.
  • Support planning and logistical elements of member wide in-person and virtual events.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of experience in non-profit program management, community engagement and network building.
  • Demonstrated experienced in public speaking, facilitation and relationship building of diverse stakeholders such as funders and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in non-profit management, community engagement, international relations and/or a related field.
  • Direct experience and knowledge of Indigenous communities’ cultural values and deep understanding of Indigenous Peoples’s rights.
  • Experience working with international non-profits to move giving for global causes. Experience working with Indigenous Peoples’ organizations is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, resource mobilization planning, budgeting, and project management.
  • Exceptional collaborative, results and solutions-oriented mindset, problem-solver, ability to foster team collaboration.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in written and oral forms and ability to articulate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Solid information technology proficiency with CRMs, remote meeting software, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and cloud systems for project management.
  • Travel required with experience and ability to travel internationally to urban and rural areas where English may not be the main language. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in a second language (Spanish preferred).

Job details: This is a full-time, exempt, remote position with occasional travel to the Sacramento, CA office required. IFIP’s team and stakeholders are based worldwide in different time zones requiring flexible work schedules. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 based on experience. IFIP offers a competitive benefits package, including paid time off and holidays.
