About the Role
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for participating in the deliverables for the Advocacy Community Network Development (ACND) project. This project is funded by the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) and supported by the framework of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP).
The objective of the project is to lead, manage and create events in the community that will target organisations outside the aged care sector, such as, RSLs and Community Resource Centres to promote the advocacy services offered by ADACAS. This includes building sustainable relationships with businesses and organisations who engage with Older People in Canberra.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing broader community awareness of advocacy and the role ADACAS plays in supporting older people, their families and representatives.
- Promoting and educating people on the benefits of advocacy and how ADACAS can assist older people through developing and supporting internal and external relationships including partnerships with community groups, charities and volunteer organisations, to improve community support and engagement.
- Develop a marketing strategy and deliver campaigns to promote the work of ADACAS. • Developing and/or tailoring resources that are effective for communicating with the audiences of the partner organisations and networks.
- Organise a range of community events. This involves researching appropriate event settings, designing a program to target your audience, promoting the event across the relevant media platforms, coordinating and day-of planning and evaluating for lessons learnt.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience working with businesses, community, volunteer or charities organisations
- Marketing experience, use of a range of media platforms to build brand awareness, develop campaigns to address the needs of your audience through products and services, negotiate advertising contracts, and work with clients to improve the design of collateral and the delivery of information
- Experience in meeting quarterly KPI’s and demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships across multiple seniority levels within organisations.
- Experience and confidence in presenting information sessions and public speaking in a variety of settings.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and non-verbal including active listening, liaison, awareness of non-verbal cues and written communication)
- Sound knowledge and application of the MS Office suite of applications, IT programs such as Salesforce (CRM)
- Demonstrated capacity to work in a culturally sensitive way with First Nations people
- Knowledge of the Aged Care Charter of Rights (desirable)
Qualifications
- Previous working experience in marketing, stakeholder engagement or business development
- A tertiary qualification OR an equivalent combination of relevant experience / education / trainin
- Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card
- Current police check
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
- Ability to have a flu vaccination each year.
