Centacare Specialist Family Support Services (SFSS) is a non-profit community organisation that supports the strengthening of family and community relationships, particularly where there is vulnerability and disadvantage. Our services are available to the entire community regardless of religion, circumstance, ethnicity, economic situation, age, gender or ability. We strive to deliver professional and accountable services whilst empowering our clients to find solutions and achieve their goals.

The role:

We are currently seeking a Community Engagement Practitioner to join our team based in Fortitude Valley on a six-month fixed term contract on a part-time basis. In this role you work to network and engagement within the local community to promote SFSS regional services.

Key Duties:

  • Actively participate in relevant networking with other agencies and providers in the Family and Relationships Service sector
  • Contribute to the review, improvement, and implementation of community accessibility strategies (e.g. for First Nations, CALD and LGBTIQA+ communities and groups and where any other barrier to service exists).
  • Co-facilitate group education programs with accredited facilitators
  • Engage directly with referred clients, where required and appropriate, to provide ‘soft entry’ connection for clients to access services
  • Assist with the integration of a ‘learning organisation’ and continuous improvement culture within the program.
  • Undertake the appropriate internal and external networking, planning and development activities relevant to the role and to CFRS/SFSS.
  • Undertake the data collection and overall administration tasks associated with the maintenance of the position in a timely manner.

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution (including eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA).
  • Demonstrated experience in networking with other relevant agencies and providers in the Family and Relationships Service sector
  • Ability to undertake the appropriate internal and external networking, planning and development activities relevant to the role and to CFRS/SFSS.
  • Experience in ensuring an effective, collaborative relationship with relevant Service Delivery Coordinators / Senior Practitioners to facilitate the efficient and smooth operation of the role.
  • Well-developed written work including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy skills.
  • Highly effective communication with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to advocate for our clients’ needs
  • Have a high degree of professionalism and integrity in working with potential clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to support build pathways with the community
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the principles and practices of community development and engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to respectfully and appropriately interact with agencies that support clients working with children and families.

Essential requirements for the role:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications are essential
  • Have a current Blue Card – or be eligible to apply.
  • Have a current driver’s licence.
  • Provide a current Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check or successfully pass one.
  • Have working rights in Australia.
