The Fire to Flourish Program is a partnership between Monash University, It was formed in response to the 2019/2020 Australian bushfires which aims to build resilience in communities experiencing entrenched disadvantage that were affected by the bushfires.
The Program brings together a consortium of partners with the University’s transdisciplinary research capabilities to work with these communities over a 5-year program to build resilience and develop the connections and leadership to shape their trajectories towards a thriving future through community-led processes.
The underlying principles for the program are: be community-led; foreground Aboriginal wisdom; enhance inclusion and self-self-determination; be strengths-based and trauma-informed; be holistic and impactful; learn, adapt and evolve.

The Opportunity
Due to internal movement within the team, we are seeking a Community Facilitator to be based in the Clarence Valley, New South Wales (NSW) location. This role will be at the forefront of the Clarence Valley community with members to organise and facilitate gatherings to ensure local perspectives and knowledge are leading resilience planning, building, networked learning and data governance activities to assist in the delivery of the Fire to Flourish program.
A key focus of the role will be fostering a network of informal relationships within the community, give a voice to the community by enhancing opportunities for a diversity of community perspectives, ensuring resilience building activities are inclusive of Indigenous, Non-Indigenous, young people, seniors, LGQBTI+, CALD and people with disabilities.
The Community Facilitator Role will be supported by the Community Lead Role, and will provide support to projects and events along with undertaking a variety of general administrative duties.
The successful candidate will be based in the local Government area of Clarence Valley (NSW) with a focus on communities as determined by the community led selection process.
This individual will have an understanding of working with a diverse range of community stakeholders including Indigenous, Non-Indigenous, young people, seniors, LGQBTI+, CALD, people with disability and an understanding and appreciation of the unique position of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures in the community.
You will have strong planning and organisational skills along with proficient management skills. The confidence to bring people together, share ideas and facilitate group discussions.

This position will involve travel to remote locations on a daily basis, some of which are not easily accessible via public transport.
