Your Opportunity

Missionbeat provides rapid response crisis intervention, on street support, welfare assistance, case management and post housing support to the rough sleepers and street dwellers of Sydney. The iconic vans are a constant street presence undertaking patrol observations and on street engagements with the most vulnerable in our community. Missionbeat patrol provides immediate on street support to access food, shelter and medical care, assisting and conveying people to safety and support. Missionbeat Case Workers provide support including referral to specialist support, accommodation and housing whilst Missionbeat Aftercare provides ongoing support to stabilise people into housing and their new community.

You will be going out into the community to meet with “rough sleepers” and others experiencing homelessness to build relationships and find safe accommodation.

Shift includes 2 days of 4 hours and one full day shift. Friday and Saturday working preferred but negotiable.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Go out into the community to interact with people presenting as homeless or at risk
  • Provide practical support and assistance for rough sleepers (blankets etc)
  • Engage with people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to monitor their needs
  • Seek out safe accommodation and link in with support services where appropriate
  • Aim to build long term on street support for rough sleepers using purposeful engagement
  • Respond to any emergency issues or dangerous situations with support services
  • Respond and attend to calls from the public and agencies relating to the welfare of people
  • Liaise with Missionbeat Team members to arrange support of clients within the service

Requirements for Success

  • Current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Good interpersonal and spoken communication skills
  • Experience working with marginalised/disadvantaged people
  • Understanding of Trauma informed approach
  • Experience working with minimal and/or no supervision
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate with vulnerable people

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
