Your Opportunity

Bring your leadership and innovation. This role will lead Mission Australia’s Communities of Focus (CoF) initiative and a local backbone team, building strong collaborations as you work in deep partnership supporting the Whyalla HOPE Collective. This initiative will focus on investing additional resources and support to community co-designed activities that will help create positive community change.

The heart of the HOPE Collective, a group of local organisations and community members, is to serve the local community, to see the community as experts in their own story, to empower neighbourhoods, and to see lives transformed. Find out more information about the HOPE Collective here.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Backbone team for Mission Australia’s place-based approach in Whyalla, South Australia.
  • Work together with The HOPE Collective to implement the CoF approach
  • Fostering respectful working relationships and communication among the backbone team, HOPE Collective governance, broader Mission Australia team, stakeholders, and community.
  • Establish and maintain efficient communications with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the HOPE leadership team in enabling long-term positive change through collective impact and overseeing the community action plan’s progression.
  • Ensure the ongoing development and improvement of the CoF approach through involvement and oversight of Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL) and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements for Success

  • Desired qualifications and experience:
    • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience at a leadership level or
    • 5 years experience in the community services sector with a passion for learning and developing community development principles, co-design and place-based social impact approaches or
    • Less formal qualification with substantial years of relevant experience, preferably in community development or community services
  • Has a positive and person-centred approach with a strong guiding belief about everyone’s capacity to grow within and beyond their current circumstances.
  • A passion for social impact and focus on making a difference to the lives of Australians in need through the communities in which they live.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in engaging and working with Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities in a culturally safe and respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the implementation of community engagement programs.
