Your Opportunity

Bring your creativity and enthusiasm for the Whyalla community and join a new local backbone team, supporting the ongoing and deepening partnership with the Whyalla HOPE Collective through Mission Australia’s Communities of Focus (CoF) initiative. This initiative will focus on investing additional resources and support to community co-designed activities that will help create positive community change.

The heart of the HOPE Collective, a group of local organisations and community members, is to serve the local community, to see the community as experts in their own story, to empower neighbourhoods, and to see lives transformed. Find out more information about the HOPE Collective here

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Assist the Community and Neighbourhood Development Lead to facilitate the Communities of Focus initiative within the Whyalla community.
  • Foster respectful working relationships and communication among the backbone team, HOPE Collective leadership team, broader Mission Australia teams, stakeholders and the community.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate community and neighbouring events, group work, meetings and presentations as required.
  • Assist to undertake on-going community capacity building, service system and community mapping across the Whyalla community.
  • Provide support, mentoring and skills development in community engagement.
  • Analyse complex information from a range of sources for review.

Requirements for Success

  • Desired qualification and experience
    • Relevant degree with at least one years’ experience or
    • Associate Diploma with relevant experience or
    • Less formal qualification with substantial years of relevant experience, preferably in community development or community services
  • Local knowledge and existing network within the Whyalla community
  • A positive and person-centred approach, with a strong guiding belief about everyone’s capacity to grow within and beyond their current circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with people with a range of specialist skills, different roles and perspectives
  • Excellent consultation skills and a proven ability to synthesise and analyse complex information from a range of sources.
  • Strong written communication skills and proven ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • A passion for social impact and focus on making a difference to the lives of Australians in need through the communities in which they live.
  • Relevant experience working with cross sectorial community engagement and community development initiatives.
  • Experience working and engaging with vulnerable and diverse communities and cultural groups.
  • A sound level of computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
