Community Trail & Park Steward

Position is open until filled; applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting May 1st with an
anticipated start date in early June. This position is seasonal, and will run through September/October.

Salary: $22 per hour, based on a non-exempt, part-time, 20 hours per week schedule.

Position Overview:
Genesee Land Trust is seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual to serve as a Community Trail & Park Steward. This part-time position will support the maintenance and care of the El Camino Trail and Conkey Corner Park, a key urban green space in northeast Rochester. The Steward will help keep these areas clean, welcoming, and vibrant for all who use them, while also serving as a friendly presence and ambassador for the Land Trust.

Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance including:

• Trash and litter pickup along trail and in park
• Weeding and mulching garden beds
• Planting flowers, shrubs, and native species
• Pruning shrubs and light landscape upkeep
• Conduct weekly site inspections and report any major issues
• Engage with neighborhood residents, trail users, and city officials in a friendly and respectful manner
• Share information about Genesee Land Trust’s mission and local initiatives
• Represent the organization positively while on site
• Occasionally assist with community events or volunteer days on-site

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

• Interest in Genesee Land Trust’s mission, the outdoors, and local land conservation
• Interest in environmental stewardship and community engagement
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
• Friendly, reliable, and respectful communicator
• Experience with basic landscaping or gardening (preferred but not required)
• Fluent in Spanish (preferred but not required)
• Must be 18 years or older and able to lift 30 pounds
