About the role

This is a full-time permanent position of 70 hours per fortnight, based in Coffs Harbour NSW. Flexibility for this role is required.

About the opportunity

Uniting is seeking a qualified community worker who has experience working with vulnerable fathers. Based in Coffs Harbour, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing the importance of fathers in the lives of their children through community awareness and direct casework support.

  • Leading the delivery of the I’m a Dad Program at the Coffs Harbour Local Health Campus.
  • Negotiating and liaising with healthcare professionals to plan and execute groups.
  • Providing advice and support to first-time fathers in accordance with program guidelines.
  • Organising and hosting reunions and providing ongoing assistance to families.
  • Advocating for service users and making appropriate referrals.
  • Contributing to collaborative partnerships and maintaining community networks.
  • Maintaining accurate records and actively participating in relevant initiatives.

Your Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences or relevant work experience.
  • Three or more years’ experience in the field, including group facilitation.
  • Ability to engage diverse families and address child protection issues.
  • Experience working collaboratively with community agencies.
  • Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and a current driver’s license.
  • Current NSW Working with Children’s Check.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with fathers in the antenatal and postnatal period.
  • Accredited qualification is group work.
  • Knowledge of working with diverse cultures and linguistic backgrounds.

Indigenous families are overrepresented in this program and within the child protection system. Appropriate cultural knowledge and understanding is important to deliver effectively in this role. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.
