Offer Description

Work Plan: The scholarship holder will participate in the following project activities: 1) study and reproduction of historical recipes for madder lake pigments; 2) use the references prepared in 1) to optimize analytical techniques; 3) analytical characterization of historical objects; 4) organization and participation in dissemination activities for different target audiences.

Fellowship duration: The fellowship is valid for 4 months expected to start 01st of March, 2024. The fellowship contract may eventually be renewed within the duration of the project.

Recipients profile/category:

Mandatory requirements:

1. Holding a Master in Conservation and Restoration, Conservation Sciences, or related areas.

2. The candidate must be enrolled in a doctorate, or in a non-academic degree course integrated into an educational project of a Higher Education Institution. The documents proving this situation must be presented, at the latest, until the stage of contracting the scholarship, and before that they can be replaced by a declaration of honour.

Preferred factors:

i) area of specialization in Conservation Sciences;

ii) experience in reproducing organic pigments following historical recipes;

iii) experience in characterising organic dyes and pigments by UV-VIS and FTIR spectroscopies;

iv) experience in characterising colorants by portable Raman spectroscopy;

v) ability to work in multidisciplinary teams;

vi) oral and written knowledge of the English language;

Additional Information
Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1199,64, according to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT, I.P., in Portugal. The payment method is by bank transfer.

Eligibility criteria

Selection criteria: The selection methods to be applied are: A) Research experience in the field, including the preferential factors i) to vi): 80% (0 to 16 values); B) Interview: 20% (0 to 4 values). All applicants that fulfil the admission requirements in Section 2 will be selected for an interview.

Selection process

Composition of the Selection Jury: Dr Vanessa Otero (Chairwoman), Prof. Dr Maria João Melo (Effective Member), Prof. Dr Márcia Vilarigues (Effective Member); Dr Paula Nabais (Substitute Member).

Form of advertising/notification of results: The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the final ranking list.

After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT’s Board through the address [email protected] .
