Offer Description

  • Work Plan:
  • The project tasks consist in the numerical simulation of the effects of external and internal blast actions in buildings and its occupants.

    Considering the blast loading scenarios listed in the project specifications and one building belonging to the NOVA FCT Campus, a parametric study will be conducted to compare the simulated damage estimated in a realistic calculation model, based on the real structure of the building and in an automatically generated model based on the building’s external features. Furthermore, the numerical study will address the problem using numerical models of varying complexity. Simplified models that quickly estimate the probable damage through empirical formulas, such as the Kingery-Bulmash formulas and the use of pressure-impulse diagrams, charge-distance and/or damage curves will be used first. The results from these models will be compared with the results obtained in more complex simulations that reproduce the propagation of shock waves in the air (CFD) and consider the structural response, including glazing and the effects of fragmentation and/or other types of penetrators, kinetic or chemical.

    This activity will also include the writing and submission of scientific papers and reports.

    The Researcher shall fully devote the whole of his/her professional activity to NOVA.id.FCT, on an exclusive basis.

    Workplace:

    The Researcher’s workplace will be in the Civil Engineering Department, NOVA School of Science and Technology, located at the Campus of Caparica, Portugal, under the scientific advisory of Professor Doctor Corneliu Cismasiu. The contracting party is NOVA.id.FCT – “Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT”.

    Fellowship duration:

    The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, , with the expected start date in March 2024. The scholarship contract may be potentially renewed within the project’s validity period.

    Application deadline and form of application submission:

    The tender is open between 29th January, 2024 and 9th February, 2024 [A1]  .

    Documents to be submitted for the application: Applications must be formalized by the compulsory submission of the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Academic records (Bachelor and Master’s degree) with detailed grades transcript;
  • Other supporting documents considered relevant.
  •

    Submission of applications: Applications must be submitted by email addressed to [email protected] .
