About the program
The Kinship Care First Supports Program supports children in statutory kinship care placements where Child Protection are involved, and the placement is expected to last more than 3 months. The program aims to identify kinship networks early, strengthen family reunification where possible, promote placement stability and prevent children from being placed in residential care unnecessarily.
Your new role
As a First Supports Worker, you will undertake comprehensive assessments and provide recommendations to Child Protection about the suitability of kinship care placements. You will consider risk factors, strengths and weaknesses of the placement and identify the child’s individual needs. You will also play an important role in supporting children to settle within the placement and support kinship carers to build their capacity to respond to the child’s safety, stability and developmental needs.

Your skills and experience
You will bring with you:
- A Bachelor level qualification in social work or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs
- Knowledge and understanding of the out of home care and child protection systems
- Well-developed risk assessment skills
