Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Computer Science Instructor on the Walla Walla Campus.
The start date is at the beginning of the Spring quarter in September 2024. Spring quarter classes include CS& 131 – Computer Science I C++ (5 credits) and/or CS 133 – Computer Science I C# (5 credits). Other opportunities in 2024-2025 school year include teaching languages in: Python, Visual Studio.NET core (ASP.NET) as well as C#, and C++.

The computer science faculty at WWCC are innovative and passionate professionals focused on student success. We are seeking a creative and dynamic individual who will become an active and engaged member of the Computer Science Department’s team.

Teaching and Related Responsibilities
Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear explanations, assignments and directions for students with a varied degree of abilities.
  • Utilize best practices when implementing technology in the classroom.
  • Assign and submit grades and maintain student records.
  • Administer frequent assessments, both formative and summative.
  • Provide students with a comprehensive syllabus that aligns with the Master Course Outline for each class.
  • Maintain one regularly scheduled office hour per week.
  • Adhere to the six Instructional Competencies (outlined below).
  • Work in partnership with the computer science department faculty and staff and attend regular team meetings as available.

Related Responsibilities:

  • Maintain excellence in and commitment to professional development activities, which include discipline-specific knowledge and best teaching practices.

There are six essential instructional competency areas that are valued for all teaching faculty at WWCC. These essential instructional competencies focus on student success, equity, and teaching.

  • Student Success Teaching Strategies – Implement and practice diverse teaching and learning strategies understanding that students come with different educational preparedness.
  • Outcomes-Based Design – Design curriculum, assignments, and projects that align with course and college-wide learning outcomes.
  • Assessment Develop student knowledge and mastery through consistent, timely formative and summative assessment.
  • Equity, Diversity, and Cultural Inclusivity – Design learning opportunities that recognize student diversity as well as foster a learning environment of inclusion and understanding.
  • Digital and Information Literacy – Ensure students have technological and digital literacy skills needed for success at university level academic institutions or professional-technical work occupations.
  • Commitment to Professional Development and College Life – Engage in continuous professional growth as well as participate in activities that promote the Walla Walla Community College’s community and mission.

  • Required Qualifications:
    This position requires at least 5 years working in the technology field as a programmer or a AAS in software design with experience or Bachelors/Master’s in Computer Science.

    • Demonstrated ability working with and relating to persons from varied cultural, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, and creating a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
    • Instructional approach centered on students and informed by culturally responsive teaching.
    • Willingness to adapt to the changing needs of students, the College and teaching methodologies.
    • Strong interest and willingness, and preferably demonstrated skill, in using technology to deliver relevant information face-to-face, online, as well as hybrid.
    • Ability to use varied instructional approaches within and between courses.
    • Ability to work with industry to improve student recruitment, review curriculum, and assist students in job placement.
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and interdisciplinary work.
    • Recent teaching or training experience in computer science or closely related field.
    • Experience with the community college system.
    • Experience using online learning management systems.

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    Terms and Conditions of Employment
    This is a part-time instruction assignment contingent on enrollment and located at the Walla Walla Campus. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful employment to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and provide transcripts. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Candidate may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition for consideration of employment. The college is a tobacco free institution. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
    Compensation
    Compensation for adjunct instruction is contingent on enrollment and paid in accordance with the contract between the WWCC Board of Trustees and the WWCC Association for Higher Education. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will commensurate with the educational background and experience per the Faculty Negotiated Agreement (Download PDF reader) . Refer to Appendix D for the part-time salary schedule.
