General Description
This is a seasonal position performing conservancy lands operations & maintenance tasks within the City of Middleton under the direct supervision of the City Forester/Conservancy Lead.
Job Functions
Conservancy lands maintenance & operation tasks including seed collection, seeding, cutting & clearing invasive species, applying non-restricted herbicides, brush mowing trails, posting trail markers & boundary signs, maintaining trails, assisting with prescribed burning activities, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic lands restoration methods & techniques.
- Knowledge of safe tool & equipment operations of commonly used equipment.
- Knowledge of hazardous work assessments, personal protective gear requirements (PPE), and ability to safely operate all tools & equipment as assigned to perform work duties.
- Ability to follow & carry out oral & written work instructions.
- Must be 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, possess steel-toe safety footwear, and be able to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Education, Training and Experience
- Previous park & conservancy lands operations & maintenance experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of commonly used tools & equipment.
- Knowledge of operations & preventative maintenance procedures for safely operating public lands vehicles & equipment.
- Knowledge of Parks & Conservancy Lands Management. practices and Forestry, Fish & Wildlife Management practices is preferred.
- Ability to identify native prairie plants, invasive weeds, as well as tree and shrub identification.
- Herbicide applicator certification or ability to obtain is preferred.
