INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Conservation and Stewardship Internship

The Bainbridge Island Land Trust is looking for summer interns to support our mission to conserve and steward the diverse natural environments of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all.

This summer internship program is designed to provide interns with experience and skills in the field of conservation and restoration, while also assisting the Bainbridge Island Land Trust in achieving its mission and goals. Interns will assist Conservation and Stewardship staff as they perform conservation, restoration, and stewardship duties.

This is a 10-week unpaid internship opportunity, consisting of approximately 30-hours a week for 2 ½ months. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required. Start and end dates are negotiable.

Job Duties:

  • Assist the Conservation and Stewardship teams to accomplish a variety of stewardship actions, including but not limited to habitat restoration, preserve maintenance, invasive weed removal, watering, plantings and monitoring.
  • Conduct field mapping of invasive species on Land Trust preserves using ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Conduct regular preserve maintenance including but not limited to trail maintenance, sign maintenance, and brush clearing.
  • Analyze, record, and categorize game camera footage.
  • Represent the Bainbridge Island Land Trust to visitors, donors, and community members.
  • Engage with community members at Land Trust outreach events.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a college student, high school senior or recent graduate.
  • Must have transportation to and from Bainbridge Island Land Trust office and field work locations (on Bainbridge Island)
  • Ability and enthusiasm for working outdoors in varying weather conditions, on uneven terrain, and performing physically challenging tasks for the duration of the internship.
  • Education, background, or interest in the following fields: field biology, ecology, environmental studies, environmental science, geographical information systems, and/or natural resource management.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and work cooperatively with the public, donors, landowners, and volunteers.
