Conservation Center Program Administrator

The successful candidate will join a dedicated statewide team that works to ‘create the next generation that cares about conservation. This group is made up of numerous conservation centers, a team of regional coordinators, the Project WILD program, and hundreds of Partners who work together to encourage youth in conserving Florida’s fish and wildlife. This team supports the delivery of summer camp programming and year-round school field trips which embody the four pillars of the FYCCN: Shooting Sports, Fishing, Boating, and Wildlife Discovery. In addition, the FWC Conservation Centers offer recreational programs for youth serving organizations through rental use of our facilities and support to FWC staff as training and meeting centers.

The ideal candidate must be passionate about getting youth outside to create the next generation that cares about fish and wildlife resources. The incumbent will work directly with several experienced Youth Conservation Center teams located across the state to ensure consistency in policies and procedures between locations, compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation Standards, and up to date curricula and recreation program offerings. Their expertise will be shared with other staff to provide a uniform approach to youth programming across the FWC. Excellent communication skills (with staff, parents, school officials, and other interested parties) are key to succeeding in this position. An ideal candidate can perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of the FYCCN’s mission, future goals, and thorough knowledge and application of FYCCN practices. Persons with good listening and writing skills and the ability to multitask at a high level are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, have experience with the ACA certification process, be able to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, possess critical thinking skills, and have a positive outlook. The selected person may also serve as the CEE Director delegate as needed.

• Serves in a critical leadership position in the CEE Director’s office;
• Works with the CEE Director to independently identify and resolve operational and management matters;
• Directly supervises up to 8 statewide staff and serves as statewide project lead over FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers;
• Conducts organizational studies and evaluates work plans to ensure workplace efficiency and effectiveness;
• Examines, organizes, and plans the most effective programmatic linkages for a varied group of interested parties, constituents and partners;
• Assists staff with identifying their training needs, knowledge, and abilities;
• Develops and updates policies, procedures, training processes;
• Ensures program staff compliance with FWC training requirements, policies, and procedures;
• Identifies and prioritizes workloads and conducts on-site observations to ascertain project functions, work performed, methods, and equipment used;
• Conducts routine meetings to keep Youth Conservation Center staff informed about important topics and stay connected;
• Serves as a CEE and/or FYCCN liaison on various conservation education, strategic planning, and policy/business teams;
• Assists with outreach and recruitment strategies;
• Provides technical assistance, consultative services and direction for development, implementation and expansion of youth conservation initiatives in state agencies and local governments;
• Ensures FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers comply with ACA performance standards and maintain accreditation;
• Provides guidance and input on conservation education curriculum for FYCCN Youth Conservation Centers and school programs;
• Administrative Duties: Attend staff meetings, complete and submit required reports, participate in professional development courses, and complete timesheets in a timely and thorough manner. Ensure files and documentation are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained. Assist with large event planning if needed. Perform other duties as required.
