WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Conservation Practitioner VI acts as the Conservation Coordinator for The Nature Conservancy in Alaska, with focus on the Bristol Bay region. The Conservation Coordinator develops, manages, coordinates, and advances conservation projects in the Bristol Bay region and across Alaska, working with TNC staff and partners to ensure community support and engagement. The Conservation Coordinator reports to the Bristol Bay Program Director.  

The Conservation Coordinator provides technical leadership and support to the Alaska program by collaboratively planning, directing, and implementing conservation initiatives within the Bristol Bay region and across the Alaska program. The Conservation Coordinator develops and implements conservation strategies and employs a full range of conservation planning, social, and economic tools in support of TNC’s conservation priorities. They work in partnership with federal and state agencies, local communities, Tribal governments, and Alaska Native corporations. They coordinate and support initiatives that advance The Nature Conservancy’s conservation programs, including but not limited to team coordination, strategic planning, communications, and fundraising efforts. 

Duties may include some or all the following: 

  • Lead and collaborate on conservation projects in support of program goals through project design, partner and stakeholder coordination, meeting facilitation, and project management.
  • Collaborate with diverse staff and partners to identify and develop new opportunities. Garner cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals.
  • Assist the Bristol Bay Program Director to identify relevant communication and fundraising needs, create supporting materials, and collaboratively carry out activities to secure public and private funding support.
  • Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating, and contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget development.
  • Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
  • Shared interest in commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice; including applying a racial equity/decolonizing lens to conservation strategy.
  • Under minimal supervision, make independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
  • May work with variety of internal experts to further other projects in support of the Conservation team and chapter-wide goals, such as team coordination and strategic planning.
  • May supervise staff and/or volunteers.
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • May travel domestically within and outside of Alaska, as much as 10%.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected in this Alaska based position is generally within the annual range of $70,000 to $74,000. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors including, for example, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Your ability to work in this geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements.
  • Experience communicating with a wide range of audiences, both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Web Browsers.
  • Proven cultural competency, experience, and/or understanding of Alaskan Native culture, traditions, tribal governments, and issues.
  • Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and web browsers.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $70,000 to $74,000. for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
