Hiring Range: $18.00–$22.00/hour DOE

About the Districts

The Bookcliff, Mount Sopris, and South Side Conservation Districts are political subdivisions of the State of Colorado serving Garfield and Pitkin Counties. Guided by local farmers and ranchers, the Districts provide technical and educational assistance in natural resource conservation.

Position Summary

The Conservation District Technician provides technical support to District Supervisors in implementing conservation programs. The position requires proficiency in GPS/GIS mapping and familiarity with agriculture and natural resource management. This seasonal work includes both office and field responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

● Create GIS maps for private landowners in Garfield County.
● Conduct on-site visits to identify noxious weeds and conservation concerns.
● Implement and assist with educational programs for youth and adults, including the Stream Trailer.
● Support Noxious Weed educational outreach efforts.
● Coordinate and work closely with partner agencies.
● Perform additional duties as requested by District Boards and staff

Position Requirements

● High school diploma required.
● Strong oral and written communication skills.
● Ability to work professionally with landowners, agencies, and partners.
● Ability to work independently in both field and office settings.
● Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
● Ability to perform outdoor work, including walking uneven terrain and carrying equipment.
● Availability for occasional evening meetings or Saturday events.

Preferred Qualifications

● GIS mapping experience.
● Knowledge of agriculture and/or conservation.
● Knowledge of soil science and/or range management.

Supervision & Evaluation

This position reports to the District Manager and is supervised by the Garfield-Pitkin Counties Association (Bookcliff, Mount Sopris & South Side Conservation Districts) Supervisors. A 90-day probation period applies, followed by seasonal or annual performance reviews. Supervisors retain authority to review and update this job description
as needed.

Schedule & Application
Schedule: Up to 24 hours per week (two 10-hour shifts or three 8-hour shifts). Occasional evening or Saturday events may be required.
