Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work to document natural resources
  • Write natural resource content for a variety of conservation and land management projects
  • Utilize ArcGIS Pro to create maps. Digitize plans for mapping purposes.
  • Complete research-related tasks such as literature reviews, data analysis, and analysis and interpretation of GIS data sets on topics such as natural resources, land use, climate change, and conservation
  • Support land conservation activities through natural resource documentation, research, writing, and data collection
  • Support stewardship activities, including property and invasive management, habitat creation & management, and volunteer crew assistance
  • Assist with the production of management and climate plans
  • Perform special projects related to natural resource and open space planning, land conservation and stewardship, GIS, and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to Greenbelt’s core values, mission and vision
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion justice and access
  • Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, botany, environmental science or related field by the start of the fellowship
  • Experienced with natural resource field work through coursework, projects, professional or volunteer experience
  • Experienced with ArcGIS Pro, one year of GIS education preferred
  • Detail oriented, self-directed but also successful in a collaborative environment. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects with direction from supervisor
  • Effective writer for a variety of audiences
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software
  • Demonstrated interest in land conservation, climate resilience, and/or environment and a willingness to learn
