About Citizen Zoo

Citizen Zoo is a leading rewilding organisation based in London, dedicated to rewilding nature
through species reintroductions, habitat restoration, and fostering a stronger connection
between people and nature. We are passionate about creating opportunities for individuals to
experience and engage with the natural world, fostering a sense of wonder, understanding, and
appreciation for our planet’s biodiversity.

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic cohort of rewilding contractors to support
our mission to Rewild our Future. As a freelance contractor, you will be responsible for
delivering captivating nature engagement & restoration sessions across our rewilding sites
in London. These sessions are designed to offer volunteers and attendees distinctive and
educational experiences. These include practical habitat management, as well as engagement
opportunities such as bat walks, wildlife walks, nature education for kids, and BioBlitz days
which involve basic wildlife surveys across the site. Successful candidates will have a passion
for wildlife, environmental education, and the ability to inspire people of all ages to connect
with the natural world.

We will offer all the training required to abide by our delivery standards and delivery topics,
however, we would like to hire people who have done this sort of work previously and can hit
the ground running.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Habitat Restoration Sessions: Lead and facilitate habitat restoration and
volunteering sessions across our sites across London (primarily southwest and west London).
  • Conduct Nature Engagement Sessions: Lead and facilitate bat walks, wildlife walks, nature
education sessions for children, and BioBlitz days in a safe, informative, and engaging manner.
  • Educational Outreach: Share knowledge about local flora and fauna, conservation efforts,
and rewilding initiatives to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of
    biodiversity.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Prioritise the safety of all participants during the sessions,
adhering to relevant safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Session Planning and Preparation: Plan and organise each session in advance, ensuring all
required materials, equipment, and resources are readily available.
  • Tailored Delivery: Willingness to tailor your delivery in line with Citizen Zoo’s values
    and mission (training provided).
  • Get Creative: We’d love to get your ideas and see how else we can engage volunteers in new
    ways.

Preferred skills and experience

  • Passion for wildlife conservation and environmental education.
  • Previous experience in leading habitat restoration & educational sessions, nature
    walks, or similar activities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to engage and inspire participants of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends and evenings as required.
  • Experience and knowledge of Safeguarding practices
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision.

  • A First Aid qualification is desirable, but not essential. Instead of a qualification, you
must be willing to undergo training.
  • A valid enhanced DBS check is required or the willingness to obtain one.
  • A full UK Driving Licence. Access to a personal car is desirable but not essential and a
