Conservation Officer, Northern Ireland

Part time, 4 days (30 hours) per week
Duration: until the end of March 2028
Location: Northern Ireland (we have an office in Belfast)

Are you passionate about protecting the small creatures that play a big role in our ecosystems?
We have an exciting opportunity for you to help some of Northern Ireland’s most threatened
invertebrates survive and thrive.

As our new Conservation Officer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering our invertebrate-focused
nature recovery projects in Northern Ireland. Our Northern Ireland Coastal Invertebrates
project aims to restore and enhance habitats along the coast, supporting the recovery of
threatened invertebrates that call these habitats home. You’ll be involved in invertebrate
surveys and monitoring, habitat condition assessments, providing advice to landowners and land
managers, and engaging local communities with the incredible wildlife right on their doorstep.
You’ll also play a key role in our programme to support the development of new skills in
identifying invertebrates.

In this role, you’ll have the chance to showcase your project management skills, build strong
partnerships, oversee practical habitat management works, develop innovative conservation
solutions, coordinate permissions, manage specialist contractors, work with local communities,
lead volunteers, and contribute to public relations and financial management. It’s a fantastic
opportunity to put your teamwork skills to the test and make a real impact.

We’re looking for someone who has their own area of interest and specialism but can also
demonstrate a broad knowledge of invertebrate ecology. If you’re eager to expand your knowledge
and work in new areas, this could be the perfect role for you.

About Us

At Buglife, we’re at the forefront of invertebrate conservation, working tirelessly to prevent
the extinction of these vital creatures and the habitats they depend on. It’s a truly exciting
time to join us as we embark on a bold new strategy to protect invertebrates across the UK.

When you join the Buglife team, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to
support your well-being, work-life balance, and personal growth, including:

  • 23 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays, and a paid Christmas shutdown
  • Flexible working options
  • Supportive and empowering culture
  • Investment in learning and development
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for confidential counselling and support
  • Thrive Mental Health Wellbeing App
  • Wellbeing Wednesday – a paid half-day off monthly
  • EV salary sacrifice scheme for eco-friendly commuting

Closing date for applications: Sunday 2 June. Online interviews will be held
on Thursday 13th June.
