About the Role

We are seeking to create a talent pool of motivated Conservators to join our Collection Care and Conservation team on various conservation projects. We would love to hear from conservators across all specialisations and experience levels who would be available for temporary or casual work. The talent pool is current for 18 months and provides successful candidates with the opportunity for employment on future projects and programs, including collection housing, risk assessment, and conservation treatment.

Positions will be required to work across the diverse range of AM Cultural, Natural Science, Library and Archive collections carrying out essential conservation services in our core business programs. Our supportive and vibrant team environment is built on collaboration and professionalism engaging with internal and external stakeholders to deliver busy ongoing monitoring programs, exhibition, loan, and acquisition schedules.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $82,184 – $104,980, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 11%) and annual leave loading; or $48.75 – $64.77 per hour plus casual loadings.

About you

You will have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Sound understanding of conservation principles and ethics
  • Willingness and ability to work at all AM sites

Essential Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in materials conservation; OR an appropriate qualification in a related field, together with two years relevant conservation experience working under the supervision of an experienced, qualified conservator; OR a minimum of five years conservation experience working under the supervision of an experienced, qualified conservator.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience in materials conservation, conservation techniques, related scientific processes, and the application of conservation ethics, as accepted by the Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Materials.
  • Cultural competency skills: awareness of the protocols when working with diverse cultural material and interpersonal skills when engaging with internal and external stakeholders of diverse backgrounds.
