INTRODUCTION
Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya) is a national non-profit organization that begun its operations in 1982 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The affiliation is guided by a National Affiliation Agreement (NAA) and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). JOB PURPOSE
Reporting and working under the guidance of the construction supervisor, the construction assistant is responsible for the supervision of all GV construction works of all buildings in all sites in Laikipia, Tana River, Kisumu, and Machakos Counties HFHK areas of operation. The types of projects would typically be multiple, medium to small sized construction works. The construction assistant will be responsible for specific planning, management and execution of work for assigned GV construction projects. He/she will be key in forming collaboration with Subject Theme Experts for specific specialized project activities such as housing innovation and low-cost technologies, Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSB), fire burnt bricks, IFC blocks and any other appropriate technologies. On direct and indirect construction activities, He/she will ensure coordination and management of all key stakeholder’s construction process and serve as the focal point administrative coordination of all GV programme/project implementation activities, involving extensive liaison with departmental units to initiate finance and logistical requests, process and follow-up on administrative actions within programmes as well as manage all correspondence and documentation. He/she will also be responsible for coordination of artisans training through partners with new emerging current green technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Designing/Scoping of GV Construction Builds
- Designing architectural drawings for the GV related drawings
- Preparation of material schedules for GV builds.
- Assist estimating GV related bills of quantity/ quotation for constructions.
Mobilizing Stakeholders for GV Construction Builds
- Prepare various requisition for the GV builds.
- Mobilizing PSC and other local stakeholders for the GV builds.
- Preparing and coordinating signing for GV artisan/masons’ contracts.
- Ensuring all setting out works are done before actual commencement of GV builds.
- Making sure that GV programs construction materials are received on site, kept safely, and always maintain track of the same.
- Assisting in procurement of GV construction materials by preparing timely goods order requests to ensure there are delays.
Supervision/implementation of GV Construction Builds
- Supervision and coordination of GV construction works.
- Monitoring and inspecting major project milestones together with county staff department of housing.
Reporting on GV Construction Builds

Prepare, submit timely GV related payment requisitions which include PSC transport, water vendors service, tools & equipment transport service, artisans progress payments, contractors, drillers, and any other related services related to construction works.

Maintain GV project specific document files for all projects.

Coordination of GV houses completion inspection with various county department to obtain completion/occupation certificates.

Maintain and keep detailed records of all aspects of the works related to GV Construction Builds and provide timely reports to the Construction Supervisor

Keeping track of all GV construction HFHK tools and equipment and materials inventory.

The construction assistant shall perform any other duty as will be assigned by the Construction supervisor.

Number of projects successfully constructed to completion.

Number of timely weekly and monthly donor progress and completion reports submitted to CS.

QUALIFICATIONS
-
Diploma/Degree in building, Architecture, Construction Management, civil engineering or any other equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

Working knowledge of MS-Office computer packages.

AutoCAD/ArchiCAD computer skills added advantage.

An excellent command of English and Swahili.

Good report writing and donor presentation skills.

Good management and co-ordination skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and team player.

Good coordination and project monitoring skills.

Thorough method of working with ability to work under pressure to pursue multiple tasks simultaneously to successful conclusions.

Ability to live and work in an isolated area and in conditions of limited comfort.
EXPERIENCE

At least three years’ work experience in equivalent position.

Previous work experience in an NGO or Not-For-Profit sector is an added advantage.
