Project Duration: 5 months
For The Construction of Bazar Anardara, Anardara Bala, Dara Kalan Anardara and Bazar Itefaq Villages Canal lining, and Protection Wall Projects in Yaftal Payen district of Faizabad Badakhshan
Background
With the current political instability, economic volatility, the collapse of basic services, the uncertainty over continued international aid as a source of revenue, the disruptions to trade and finance, and the impacts of climate change on food production, the risks faced by the poor are becoming more intense and less predictable. It is estimated that as of August 2021, over half a million people have already been displaced by conflict, and thousands more affected by natural disasters. Up to 30 percent of the population is projected to be in either a food security crisis or emergency by the end of the year[1], and half of all children under five are already severely malnourished.
An innovative, inclusive, and highly flexible approach is needed, one that put people’s first targets the most vulnerable, and meets local needs by focusing on saving lives and livelihoods. UNDP is, therefore, adopting a highly integrated yet decentralized approach to programming known as ROK-REVIVE Programme.

Most of Northeast region districts are affected by droughts and conflicts. Bazar Anardara, Anardara Bala, Dara Kalan Anardara and Bazar Itifaq villages are in Yaftal Payan district of Badakhshan Province.
The primary sources of income for the residents of Yaftal Payan district of Badakhshan Province include agriculture, livestock rearing, and small-scale trade. Many households also rely on seasonal labor and remittances from family members working in other regions or abroad to support their livelihoods. Agriculture and livestock are the main economic sources of the residents, while a small percentage of people are busy with small scale trading, the wheat is main agriculture products of the people living in these villages. Owing to the landslide the start point of the canal was significantly affected and every year the people build via dry stone wall to protect the canal which is quickly destroyed as well as the village agricultural land is threatened by water of canal.
To protect canals from further damage and to irrigate, protect the houses and agricultural land of Bazar Anardara, Anardara Bala, Dara Kalan Anardara and Bazar Itifaq villages, UNDP/ROK intends to construct protection walls
