BACKGROUND

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

Today, an estimated 47 million children under 5 suffer from wasting and 14.3 million (approximately one-third) of these children suffer from severe wasting, the most life-threatening form of child malnutrition. UNICEF’s primary goal is to ensure that no child dies from wasting. Our approach aims to accelerate progress on two inter-related fronts simultaneously:

• Reduce the number of children suffering from the more severe forms of wasting.

• Increase the number of children with severe forms of wasting who access treatment.

This consultancy will support the development of a comprehensive resource library focusing on guidance and documents related to child wasting, built on the existing and recently updated website (childwasting.org) using approved UNICEF CMS platform and content developed by UNICEF and WHO.

Scope of Work:

The Programme Group – Nutrition and Child Development in UNICEF NYHQ seeks to hire a Digital Web Producing Consultant to develop and finalize a resource library for guidance and documents related to Child Wasting. The resource library will be built onto the approved UNICEF CMS platform, as a new tab under the recently updated childwasting.org website. The consultant will transfer an already developed database into a resource library with a new webpage developed for each item and provide technical advice as necessary. The deliverable will be the quality production of the resource library, and support quality assurance of the entire new website.

Activities:

The Digital Web Producing Consultant will play a vital role in the timely production of the resource library under childwasting.org website. In particular:

  • Build new pages for the resources library under the Chidlwasting.org website within the Drupal Content Management System (CMS) ecosystem using available content components and UNICEF standards.
  • Gather, and publish visual assets (photos, videos, publishing PowerBI visuals, and other assets) for the resource library.
  • Build the structure using existing database into a fully functional website.
  • Provide web editorial support in putting existing content in the right format for the web pages.
  • Produce editorial content as directed.

Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:

Deliverable 1: The resource library is drafted including website content and lay out pages and sections. – By June 15th, 2024

Deliverable 2: Finalized webpages for the Resource library submitted including up to 5 rounds of consultations conducted to collect inputs and amendments. – By June 30th, 2024

Deliverable 3: Additional 15 webpages created as per needs and requirements, after discussion and agreement between contractor and supervisor. – By June 30th, 2024

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, Information Technology, or similar fields.

Work experience:

  • 5 years of relevant professional experience in web development.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in enterprise digital platform work, preferably with UNICEF HQ
  • Successful track record building pages with a user-focus, utilising UX/UI to enhance.

Competencies/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge working with multilingual sites is considered an asset
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Requirements:

Completed profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and

  • Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include/ reflect:
    • the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability.
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
