Overview

As part of our efforts to support community stability and reintegration in Heet and Ramadi, the Al-Tadhamun Recovery Center is seeking a Senior MHPSS Consultant.

The objective of this consultancy is to bridge the gap between “Education” and “Mental Health” for returnees from Northeast Syria and host community children. The consultant will design a specialized methodology and train educational staff on Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), empowering them to manage complex psychological challenges within the school environment.

 

Scope of Work

The consultant will lead the technical process across three specific phases:

  • Phase 1: Content Development (Manual & Toolkit)
    • Develop a comprehensive “Psychosocial Practices in Schools” manual tailored to the Anbar context (Must be developed in high-quality Arabic).
    • Design a complete training toolkit, including interactive presentations, realistic case studies of returnees, and pre/post-assessment tools.
  • Phase 2: Capacity Building (Training Delivery)
    • Facilitate an intensive 4-day training workshop in Sulaymaniyah (Jan 11–14, 2026) using active learning methodologies (role-playing, simulation).
  • Phase 3: Reporting & Advisory
    • Submit a final analytical report including data analysis of pre/post-tests and practical recommendations for each school based on observations.

Technical Syllabus Requirements

The manual and training must cover the following core pillars:

  • Trauma-Informed Care (TIC): The six principles of TIC in schools, understanding the “Traumatized Brain,” triggers, and reframing behavioral issues.
  • Well-being & Emotional Regulation: Tools for emotional expression (e.g., Emotion Wheel, Grounding Techniques) and building resilience.
  • MHPSS Interventions: Psychological First Aid (PFA) for children, social inclusion strategies to reduce stigma, and the Referral Pathway (identifying Red Flags).
  • Staff Self-Care: Strategies to prevent Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout among educators.

 

 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Master’s or PhD in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Counseling, or Social Work.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in MHPSS, with a specific focus on Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Sector Experience: Proven track record with International or Local NGOs working with returnees, IDPs, or protection projects.
  • Language Skills: Ability to develop high-level training manuals in professional Arabic is mandatory.

Deliverables & Payment Terms

Payments will be made in Iraqi Dinar (IQD) upon approval of the following milestones:

  1. Inception Phase: Draft Manual + Training Agenda + Toolkit (10 days prior to training).
  2. Implementation: Successful completion of the 4-day training in Sulaymaniyah.
  3. Finalization: Final Manual (Ready for Print) + Final Report (1 week post-training).

(Note: Travel, accommodation, and meals for the consultant are fully covered by the organization and should not be included in the financial proposal).
