JOB DESCRIPTION
Background:
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is performing an in-depth analysis of the role of public policies on migration decisions in Guatemala. This assessment requires developing a theoretical framework for empirical testing combining aggregate and detailed micro data, as migration decisions are generally influenced by several factors and public policies may materialize in the form of investments or expenditures across multiple channels (provision of public services, government spending, participation in local labor markets, and infrastructure). The Consultant will perform project activities related to literature review; economic modeling; data processing and statistical analysis; and report drafting. The position is based remotely and may require travel to Guatemala or IFPRI headquarters in Washington, DC.
Scope of work:
- Perform literature and document reviews.
- Develop a theoretical framework for analysis.
- Perform data processing and statistical analysis with input from IFPRI team as needed.
- Deliver draft report.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Economics or closely related field.
- Excellent theoretical skills on economic modeling.
- Sound knowledge of Matlab.
- Experience with quantitative research methods and statistical analysis of aggregate and micro data.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently and with initiative, and with colleagues from diverse cultures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
- Sound knowledge of macro and microeconomics.
- Knowledge of STATA.
- Research experience in Central America on development issues.
