BACKGROUND

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

The purpose of this consultancy will be to support the Child Protection Programme Team in NYHQ with specific knowledge management and communications products which will contribute to overall sector initiatives and foreseen outputs.

The consultant will be under the general supervision of the Advocacy, Communications, and Knowledge Management Specialist in the Planning and Evidence Building Unit of the Child Protection Programme Team and will also collaborate closely with other members of the Child Protection Programme Team in New York Headquarters.

Deliverables will be centered on the development of sector-specific communication products and content for social media.

Scope of Work:

Area 1: Supporting Child Protection Communications Products

The consultant will create internal bulletins for Child Protection based on inputs from colleagues throughout the organization.

-The consultant will create external bulletins for Child Protection partners.

-The consultant will support the creation of presentations, as well as to identify/curate content for communications products (stories, testimonies, photographs).

-The consultant will help update the advocacy and communications planner for the Child Protection section.

Area 2: Developing Social Media Content

The consultant will develop content for posting on organizational social media and communications platforms (X, blogs Instagram, LinkedIn).

-The consultant will develop social media packages for key publications and events.

– The consultant will support coordinating a detailed social media calendar with well-defined and strategic messaging

Area 3: Updating of CP SharePoint and Webpages

The consultant will keep both platforms up to date with latest developments and publication and will ensure a consistent and user-friendly design for both.

-The consultant will be responsible for updating and maintaining the Child Protection internal library and SharePoint page in collaboration with all units.

Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:

  • 10 CP bulletins delivered by 31 December 2024
  • 4 donor updates delivered by March 15, June 15, September 15 and December 15.
  • 10 presentations created by December 31.
  • Set of photographs and country level programme examples gathered for annual reporting by April 30.
  • 10 updates of communications and advocacy plan as well as social media planner by 31 December 2024.
  • Up to 550 social media posts developed, with graphic design included and including featuring programming highlights from field by 31 December 2024
  • 10 maintenances of SharePoint and Webpages by 31 December 2024
  • Compile 2 lists of global Child Protection Knowledge Products for 2023 and 2024.

Qualifications

Education:

Completion of Bachelor’s degree is a minimum requirement. Degree in Communications, Information Technology or related degree preferred.

Work experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience, closely related to communications and knowledge management.
  • Experience managing social media and website for an organization. Ability to use Drupal is considered an asset.

Competencies/Knowledge:

  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively use standard office software, as well as diverse technology tools to manage meetings.
  • Familiarity with managing organizational intranets.
  • Ability to use Mailchimp and Canva for design.
  • Additional design skills highly valued.
  • Knowledge of child rights; child protection and UNICEF is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English (written & verbal) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is considered an asset.

Requirements:

Completed profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and

  • Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include/ reflect:
    • the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability.
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
