The Ophthalmology team is based at our new Eye Centre at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and provide specialist care and investigations with services also delivered via our Dewsbury, Pontefract sites and CDC site.Our excellent team of dedicated Doctors, Nurses, Opticians, Orthoptists and other support staff provide a wide range of eye care services to children and adults. The workload is in Clinic see about 12 to 14 patients per clinic, Virtual clinic 24 patients per clinic and Theatre 7 cases.Urgent and Emergency Care duties including out-of-hours on-call schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe workingOn-call duties are currently shared with 8 other colleagues on a 1:8.5 Rota, currently assessed as 0.89 PA.1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities will be offered to the successful candidate for which appropriate objectives will be agreed in accordance with the Trust Framework and national Terms and Conditions of Service with additional 0.5 PA for extra roles like Lead for service etc.Examples may include formal teaching responsibilities or departmental leadership roles like Research leadAbout usWe are an acute trust caring for over half a million people in Wakefield and Kirklees. Most People do work from two sites. The department provides Secretarial support and office accommodation in the Eye Centre.   • Medical Degree from recognised medical school
  • FRCOphth / FRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • Fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis or experience of working in these subspecialties
  • Academic Prizes

  • Teaching qualification / awards

GMC Registration
Essential

  • Please state full GMC number
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist register or within 6 months of CCT

Management Skills
Essential

  • Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Good time management.
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services.

Desirable

  • Possess good organisational and personal management skills
  • Evidence of personal contributions to service development
  • Awareness of the current UK Healthcare system and the need to develop services in line with current policy

Experience
Essential

  • Wide experience in management of Medical Retina and Uveitis patients in outpatients, Lasers and theatre.

Desirable

  • Ophthalmology fellowship or equivalent experience in Medical Retina and Uveitis
  • Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
