Following recent successful rounds of recruitment, we are pleased to invite applications for a Consultant in Orthodontics for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), working across North Wales. This is a great opportunity for an individual who would be interested in clinical sessions within specialist practice, should applicants wish to undertake work in both primary and secondary care. This substantive post is for up to 12 sessions although applications for part time or job sharing will be considered.The post benefits from the recently agreed Welsh consultant pay scale (£106,000 – £154,760). In addition, the Health Board would be willing to negotiate on the starting salary. The post is subject to the Welsh Consultant contract, which has significant benefits when compared to the English Contract. This includes a greater number of supporting professional activity (SPA) sessions within the job plan and faster pay progression. Generous relocation packages are also available.AAC interview 8th August 2025.Stakeholder Panel interview week of the 4th August.Main duties of the jobTo contribute to the Orthognathic surgical programme, in liaison with maxillofacial colleagues.To contribute to the management of multidisciplinary cases with restorative and surgical colleaguesOpportunity to support the North West Regional Cleft Lip and Palate service, which provides orthodontic supervision and treatment of cleft cases in the unit’s catchment area, when required, as part of a joint care approach.To provide clinical instruction, as required, to junior members of the clinical team and the Orthodontic TherapistsTo provide ongoing training, as required, to primary care practitioners.You will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues along with the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).You will be required to participate in continuing medical / dental education in ways which are acceptable to the Chief Executive and maintain stipulated annual CPD requirements.About usIf you relish a challenge, have a passion to help others or simply fancy a fresh start, then Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) North Wales, has all the right ingredients. Qualifications
Essential

  • Full GDC Registration
  • Specialist Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent
  • Be on the GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics

Desirable

  • Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics, or equivalent before commencing the post
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CSST in Orthodontics
  • Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery or equivalent ?MSc or equivalent
  • MSc or equivalent

Experience
Essential

  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum two year training in a fixed term training appointment (Post-CCST/FTTA) in Orthodontics or within six months of completion of training which follows on from the pre-CCST training period of 3 years or equivalent
  • Commitment to continued professional development through lifelong learning.

Desirable

  • Successful completion of an SAC approved minimum three year training programme in Orthodontics
  • Experience in the management of craniofacial anomalies, including CLP
  • Demonstration of CPD log book.

Ability
Essential

  • Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Counselling and communication skills
  • Up-to-date with current practices in Orthodontics

Desirable

  • Computing skills

  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical/dental practice. Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
