Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Mental Health

British Medical Journal

Job title:

Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Mental Health

Company

British Medical Journal

Job description

This post was vacated by the previous substantive consultant moving. This post forms part of the Directorate of Adult Mental Health within the North Yorkshire, York and Selby Care Group of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust.

We aim to provide person-centered specialist services, with emphasis on the role of the care coordinator, and consequent reduction of clinical demands on consultant psychiatrists and specialty doctors, allowing them to take up true consultancy roles, and to devote more time to special interests.

We also aim to provide compassionate care to patients, carers and families that takes account of the patients needs and aspirations beyond their mental health difficulties. Our aim is to work collaboratively with patients, sharing responsibility for their care and providing informed choice about treatment options.

The clinical directorate includes a Service Manager and Lead Psychiatrist. They are all accountable to the Quality Assurance Group which is chaired by the General manager of AMH Services and Associate Medical Director for AMH services and meets once a month.

On the basis of intensive consultation and staff and service user involvement, the locality has developed a whole system of care. All specialist elements required by the Mental Health NSF are in place, with some local tailoring to meet the challenges of rurality. The service is an integrated health and social care enterprise (with North Yorkshire Social Services)

Main duties of the job

The expectations of the clinical work are that you will provide consultant input in line with the principles of New Ways of Working. The core clinical work will involve outpatient clinics, formulation-, review- and leadership- meetings and Mental Health Act-related work. The direct clinical workload centres on clinic-based meetings. As a result of the Transformation of Mental Health Services in Harrogate, inpatient services are provided from Foss Park Hospital in York with enhanced support for local teams provided through the crisis resolution and home treatment team.

You will not act as a care coordinator. You will act as a lead professional for those patients not subject to CPA. You will conduct up to 2 new assessments per week, following the initial assessments by the care coordinator. You will conduct 10 follow ups per week. Review will occur on a regular basis to manage the caseload within acceptable numbers.

Cover arrangements and supervision of junior medical staff will be shared with the other post holder who works 5 PAs in this team.
