Duties and Responsibilities
In the context of UNCTAD’s project “Technology assessment in the energy and agricultural sectors in Africa to accelerate progress on Science, Technology and Innovation’’, and at the request of the Government of Seychelles, a technology assessment (TA) is currently being undertaken in Seychelles. Under the supervision of the UNCTAD Project officer, the consultant will help implement the TA on agrivoltaics in controlled environments for vegetable production in Seychelles.
The consultant engaged under these Terms of Reference will provide support to the TA project in Seychelles. Specifically, the consultant will contribute to the production of the project outputs by undertaking the following activities:
a. Liaise with counterparts at the Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) of Seychelles and with UNCTAD staff as necessary to ensure effective planning and organization of the TA validation workshop, as well as ensuring participation of stakeholders, and effective follow-up in Seychelles
b. Prepare a draft action plan based on the TA report ahead of the workshop. Advisory services will be provided by UNCTAD and international consultants
c. Participate in the upcoming TA validation workshop and collect relevant quantitative and qualitative information reflecting stakeholders’ feedback on the TA report and action plan
d. Revise the TA report and action plan based on the feedback gathered during the workshop
e. Produce a policy brief on the TA report that will be utilized for dissemination both nationally and internationally.
Qualifications/special skills
An advanced university degree, Master, in Science, Technology, Innovation or STI policy, Economics, International Development or related fields is required
At least 10 years of work experience, with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in Research, Science, Technology or Innovation. Experience in drafting socio-economic analysis on the impact of technologies is required.
Experience in working on issues related to development in sub-Saharan Africa is desirable
Languages
Fluency oral and written in English is required.
