About this position:
The Department of Central American Countries, Haiti, Mexico, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (CID) is looking for a consultant to support the work of the Regional Economic Advisor (REA). The consultant will be part of the team of economists that reports directly to the REA, coordinating with the rest of the economists, and developing a wide range of functions that contribute to the achievement of economic growth and social development of the region, including macroeconomic monitoring, analysis of development challenges, and knowledge generation.
- Support the Regional Economic Advisor in carrying out development-oriented research, macroeconomic data gathering and analysis, and Bank’s documents preparation and review.
- Economic monitoring and analysis: prepare weekly and monthly reports about the economic, social, and political situation of the countries in the region.
- Identify, compile, and organize databases.
- Prepare presentations to support the outreach and communications of the department
- Provide support in the design and preparation of the department’s research agenda.
- Coordinate and support the technical approach of the research agenda (management, survey instruments, sampling, and data collection).
- Perform econometric and statistical analyses and computer programming.
- Prepare literature reviews.
- Preparation of draft documents and economic studies about development issues in the region.
- Coordinate and conduct research and help grow the knowledge agenda of the unit, including the development of methodological notes detailing with specific data sources and analytical methodologies, as well as primary and secondary data collection and analysis
- Synthesize and translate research into implications for policy and best practices.
- Assisting in the organization of workshops, meetings and other activities in department
- Management of research technical cooperations
- Coordinating and maintaining close communication with the Bank´s country economists,
- Participating in Bank staff meetings.
- Other activities as deemed necessary.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) in Economics, International Relations, Public Policy or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Master’s degree preferable, but not required.
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in economic analysis and research assistantship
- Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
