Introduction :

UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Environment/ Badia Restoration Programme and the Ministry of Agriculture/Jordan Cooperative Corporation commenced the “ Improving Livelihoods of Sheep Owners in the Jordan Badia through Enhancing Sheep Wool Marketability and Profitability” project, which aims to reduce the cost of shearing that livestock owners incur, introduce and adopt modern shearing equipment’s and best practices, organize the wool sector and boost its contribution to the local development through effective collection, processing and trade.

As major component of the project objective, the wool collection center is designed to play important role in boosting the sector, it is expected to form a hub and point of sale where livestock owners and concerned stakeholders can deliver the sheared wool every year.

The wool collection center is decided to be constructed at Al Qatrana District in Karak Governorate close to the desert highway (Figure 1), and on a state land of approximately 20 dunums allocated by the government for the interest of the Ministry of Agriculture/Jordan Cooperative Corporation, which eventually will own and run this facility as a cos-business center. The project design includes steel hangar (1000 m2) and yards to meet the project functions.

UNDP under this project will be seeking a qualified engineering construction company to implement the construction works in accordance with the designs under the supervision of engineering consultancy firm (to be hired) and the UNDP and end-user engineering teams.
