The Controller position will be responsible for managing the accounting operations, including finance-related reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

This position will be located at EmployIndy’s Downtown Office and report to the Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations.

To be successful in this role you will accomplish:  

  • Provides overall leadership of full accounting operations including, but not limited to revenue, expenses/payables, reporting, analysis, and audits.
  • Ensures the accurate, timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual book close cycles for an accounting function by effective planning, monitoring and problem solving.
  • Prepare financial reports, statements and claims as requested for internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrate expertise in general accounting methods and operations, as well as payroll management/compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
  • Ensure that the organizational compliance with accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Support the EVP in engaging the Finance Committee and Board of Director’s around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery of Financials.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Assists with the annual budgeting and planning process, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements 
Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field required. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
  • Four years of related experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Experience with external auditing and financial reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with grant management and grant accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience within non-profits where there are multiple divisions is preferred.
  • GL accounting experience and external reporting and compliance experience.
  • NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of financial management.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy, issue identification and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills.
