Primary Responsibilities | St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Controller position. This is full time, 12-month, administrative position. Position Summary Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Controller works closely with, and under the direction of the Vice President of Finance and Administration. The Controller is responsible for supervision of the day-to-day financial operations of the University including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed asset management, cash management and payroll. The Controller responsibilities further address the preparation of the University’s financial statements, preparation of reports for internal and external constituencies, assure the use of general accepted accounting principles, and compliance with federal, state, local and College policies and procedures, and assists with the development and implementation of the annual budget. Hybrid Work Statement This position is based on our campus in Canton, N.Y., and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with some work-from-home flexibility. Primary Responsibilities The Controller directs and controls all financial activity covering the receipt, expenditure and safe keeping of the funds and assets by performing the following duties personally or through direct reports. Directly supervise the following positions: 1) Director of Student Financial Services responsible for operation of Student Financial Services Office which currently has a staff of 4. 2) Senior Staff Accountant responsible for significant aspects of SLU’s accounting and external reporting process. Researches, interprets, and applies accounting principles to complete daily, monthly, and yearly accounting tasks to support the Business Office in producing accurate and complete financial reports. 3) Accounts Payable Supervisor responsible for accounts payable and general accounting functions of the Business Office to ensure that the university’s resources are expended in accordance with appropriate guidelines and financial activity is recorded in an accurate and timely manner which currently has a staff of 3. 4) Payroll Manager primarily responsible for payroll processing for all employees (exempt, hourly, and students), employee tax records, union dues processing, W2 annual processing.

Salary | $125,000 – $160,000. Actual salary will be determined by education, experience, unique skills and other factors permitted by law. |
