Founded in 1987, Damien Center is Indiana’s oldest and largest AIDS service organization (ASO) and serves more than 8000 individuals living with or at risk for HIV through a comprehensive, innovative approach to care and prevention. Position Summary:

The Controller is responsible for day-to-day accounting and producing financial statements for Damien Center. This position will manage audits and tax compliance issues. The Controller will develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines. The Controller will demonstrate a strong attention to detail with the ability to work with management, staff, vendors, and clients to accomplish the strategic goals of the Finance and Damien Center teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Develops, implements, and maintains financial policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Maintains general ledger, including account analysis, subsidiary schedules with proper documentation, and preparation of monthly and year-end journal entries.
  • Develops and maintains procedures for cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Audits and maintains internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
  • Coordinates with external auditors and provides needed information for annual audit.
  • Manages completion of annual entity filings and property tax filings.
  • Coordinates completion of 990 annual filings.
  • Manages monthly and year end close process.
  • Manages bank accounts and cash balances.
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Regularly reviews general ledger for accuracy.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Assists Budget Manager in ensuring funds are spent according to grant requirements and other funding.
  • Assists CFO with financial and operating benchmarks, program monitoring, and reporting standards on bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Stays appraised of all the local, state and federal laws and business regulations that affect the company and ensure compliance.
  • Performs special assignments and other work, on an as-needed basis.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors’ degree required. Ten or more years of accounting experience required. Managerial experience preferred. Experience in nonprofit or healthcare required. Superior organizational skills with attention to detail required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.

  • Salary: $103,000-$105,000 annually
