About the opportunity

For the last 25 years, our Breezeway team has been behind the stove working to provide hot two-course lunches and takeaway sandwich packs for those in need across Ballarat.

Due to expansion of our program, a new casual chef position is available to provide cover to our roster, with the potential to be engaged for 2 to 4 shifts a fortnight that run from 9am to 2pm every day of the year including weekends and public holidays.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant food safety standards and codes
  • Preparation, cooking and serving of a two course hot meal to 70 plus persons
  • Supervision and direction of volunteers in preparation of takeaway packs and general food preparation
  • Menu planning to efficiently and creatively utilise donated produce and meats
  • Sorting and storage of donated produce and meats on a daily basis

What’s on offer

In addition to base salary plus superannuation, you’ll also receive 17.5% leave loading and have the option to increase your take home pay with access to up to $15,900 in salary packaging benefits.

About you

You will have experience working in a commercial kitchen and a track record in menu planning and large scale meal production.

You will also bring with you:

  • Food Safety Supervisor accreditation (or be prepared to obtain)
  • Ability to complete Food Supervisor Training and comply with all current Food Handling requirements
  • Provide a non-judgmental approach to all staff, volunteers and clients
  • Ability to creatively plan a nourishing, well balanced two course daily menu and sandwich packs
  • Demonstrated efficient time management to ensure all appropriate levels of preparation and stock is on hand at the beginning of each shift.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers in all aspects of food preparation and serving of meals
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence
